Anderson Circle Farm Commercial Cattle
The ACF commercial herd consists of 1,400 Angus and Angus influenced cows of known origin. Most have been raised on the farm and were retained as replacement heifers following a rigorous culling process. The commercial herd is divided into a spring and fall calving herd. The goal at ACF is to have the commercial herd of cows work in harmony with the purebred herd. To achieve this goal, bull produced in the purebred herd are utilized to breed the commercial cows so progeny tests can be conducted. The commercial cattle are also used to produce top quality commercial replacement heifers for commercial cattlemen in the area. All of the cattle produced at ACF go through a strict culling process based on visual appraisal, performance and pelvic measurements for the replacement heifers. In addition, all of the cattle have DNA profiles for Feed Efficiency, Tenderness and Quality Grade. The cows with the best profiles for Feed Efficiency have been grouped together and are bred to bulls known to also have good profiles for Feed Efficiency. Most of the heifers are bred AI to known calving ease Angus bulls. All heifers and cows retained by ACF to go back into the herd carry an electronic identification tag as well as two visual ID tags.
