Replacement Heifers
In our replacement heifer program, we raise and select only the finest heifers with highest quality for a true replacement for a herd. At approximately six months of age, we will make our first choice using weaning weights and visual analysis as guidelines. After which we will re-evaluate every two months for weight gain and physical appearance. Once they have reached approximately 12 months of age, the heifers will be pelvic measured and a reproductive tract evaluation by a trained veterinarian. Any heifers with potential problems are sent back to the commercial cattle herd. The ones that are remaining are then synchronized for estrus and artificially inseminated to a low birth EDP (expected progeny difference) once they reach 14 month of age

All heifers in this program wear three forms of identification consisting of two ear tags and an electronic identification tag and co-habitat with other heifers that were specially selected for this program.
