Schuller Log House
Historic preservation and restoration does not always mean restoring a building on its original site. Although an increased awareness of preservation has saved many of our historic treasures, a significant number of buildings are still lost each year. Although the idea state would be restoration upon their original site, we must be willing to relocate historic buildings if that is the only alternative between destruction or salvage. This is the case with the Schuller Log House.

The Schuller Log House was originally constructed in Metcalf County, Kentucky circa 1825. Metcalf County is approximately 75 miles southwest of Mercer County. In 1994, Ralph was informed that this log house was in jeopardy and may soon be demolished. Restoration on the original site was not going to be an option, but the owners did agree to sell the log house to Ralph and Ruth. It was carefully dismantled with each piece being identified and moved to the Anderson Circle Farm.

Shawnee Springs was selected as the site for the relocation of the log house due to its historic role in the history of Mercer County. When Shawnee Springs is viewed today, the serenity of the area gives no clues to its turbulent past. To understand the historical importance of this part of Anderson Circle Farm, we must first understand both the history of the total surrounding geographic area and the powerful events that were shaping our nation during this period. We will present this history in other sections of this website.
