Show & Sale Barn
With the growth of any new business, new facilities and services are required to conduct the day to day business operations. Anderson Circle Farm was no exception. Using Anderson Circle Farm’s land, capital resources, and management experience, Anderson Circle Farm quickly became an operation well known and highly respected throughout the beef industry for handling consistent and high quality cattle. By 1994, the Anderson Circle Farm Angus cattle business, started in 1987 as a local business, was starting to blossom. It was now a national business. The central farm office constructed at Wildwood during its restoration in 1987 was rapidly becoming total inadequate. In addition, the Wildwood location was not convenient for business visitors, nor did it offer facilities for cattle shows and sales.

Ralph recognized that if the Angus cattle business was to continue to grow and succeed, new facilities and services must be put into place as soon as possible. With the purchase of the Wilkinson farm in 1988, Anderson Circle Farm gained valuable road visibility from Route 127, the major north / south state route with links to other major Kentucky transportation routes. Thus, Ralph decided that the new Sale and Show Barn should be located with a direct access to Route 127. This would not only be a highly visible site, but would offer convenient access.

Planning for the new facility began on a modest scale, but quickly grew as the functional requirements were defined. In addition to the functional requirements, Ralph wanted the new facility to become the visible symbol for Anderson Circle Farm. It should be a strong visual statement that reflected the long and proud tradition of Kentucky farming, a statement that would remain in the mind’s eye long after visiting the farm. Thus, we began our envisioning by examining the American Barn in general and the Kentucky Barn in specific and their place in our nation’s history.
